Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) are small titanium anchors used in orthodontics to enhance tooth movement more efficiently and comfortably than traditional methods alone. They can be used with braces or as an alternative to headgear.
Placement of TADs
TADs are placed under local anesthesia, which numbs the gum and jaw area. The procedure is quick, typically causing only slight pressure during insertion. Once placed, you shouldn’t feel the TAD. They are removed after they are no longer needed for treatment, which is a swift and comfortable process.
Managing Discomfort
Mild discomfort post-placement can be managed with Tylenol®. Persistent pain should be reported to your dentist immediately.
Cleaning Your TAD
Clean a TAD as you would braces by brushing three times daily. Additionally, use an antimicrobial mouthwash twice a day as instructed.
